KRIPT — Simple, free offline file encryption web application

The number of those cyberattacks has recently surged that occasionally claimed hundreds of millions where attackers hacked a business partner’s correspondence to learn about its contents and sent fake invoices, proforma invoices and advance receiving invoices (with a rewritten bank account number) to another party at a time when they were already expecting such a document.

Such an attempt at an attack (Business Email Compromise) can be fended off with the right preventive steps and with the application of cybersecurity protective technologies; however, practice shows that a significant number of businesses only take the first steps when the problems have already hit, and the damage is considerable. In addition to this, there is a big number of such businesses too which are open to improvement but they’re not yet in the possession of the required resources to build out the protection of their IT infrastructure.

Because of this, the Makay Cybersecurity Ltd. (https://makay.net) has launched the free KRIPT service (https://kript.me) as a kind of step zero for these companies which can help business partners send and receive financial documents as well as pictures and other files that require increased security (confidentiality and integrity) in an encrypted way. Thus, even though an attacker may gain access to the communication, they won’t be able to learn what’s in the attached encrypted files and so they can’t manipulate business processes with modified documents.

As compared to other traditional solutions (e.g. password protected ZIP files), KRIPT’s strength lies in the fact that it guides the user through the process of encryption through an interface which can be easily used by a layperson as well so as to prevent typical mistakes which can eventually lead to ‘catastrophes.’

In the user tests, it’s become apparent that with KRIPT, literally anyone can encrypt and decrypt materials in a matter of seconds, regardless of it being used either on a computer or a smartphone. (On top of this, this result was achieved even though the testers didn’t have the service’s user guide.)

Because there are more advanced, more complex and more expensive solutions available on the market as well as ones that require more professional acumen, this service shouldn’t be regarded as a comprehensive solution to a general problem; however, as long as there’s no process in place for the strong encryption of documents, their electronic signatures and their professional validation, KRIPT will be needed on the current wild west of infocommunication.
